SharePoint 2013 Communities


The following are the new Communities (Collaboration) features in SharePoint 2013.

Feature
Description
Microblog 
Allows users to post short messages and publish them instantly to all users in the network. The posts will be displayed as feeds to other users.

Other user can post replies to the micro blogs instantly.

The Distributed Cache service enables sharing the blogs posts and feeds instantly by caching them.
Mobility
Allows integrating SharePoint Applications and Services with Windows Phone applications. Offers new, optimized viewing experiences across different mobile platforms. Compatible with mobile browsers like Internet Explorer Mobile, Safari, Android Browser etc.
Community Sites Template
Users can start and participate in forum threads in the Community Sites, this helps users to share information and get suggestions from other users.
Community Portal Template
New Template, offers a search option to view the list of Community sites across sites and site collections. Allows the user to find a community site and join the community.

SharePoint Collaboration


As the name suggests Collaboration helps in building an association between the SharePoint users, it provides an environment for users to share information with others across the organization. Since SharePoint is a web-based system, if connects users across various Geographical locations seamlessly.

Collaboration helps in building an organizational level knowledge repository, by centrally managing the information shared by all its users. If organized effectively this information will become a great knowledge assert for the organization over a period of time.

Alerts
Instant and Pre-Configured alerts.
Instant alerts can be used for communication between 2 users
Pre-Configured alerts can be triggered to fire when a certain change / configuration happen in the system.
Project Task List
Helps is managing Projects, Project Task List allows you to create tasks assign task to resources and track their progress.
Shows the status using Gantt charts.
Documents library
Allows users to upload documents and share it with other users.

Allows storing PowerPoint slides and share it with the team.
