SharePoint 2013 Search


The following are the new Search features in SharePoint 2013.

Feature
Description
Analytics Processing Component

The Analytics Processing Component is used for search in SharePoint 2013.
It searches both the content and the usage of the content to improve search accuracy and relevance.

Content analytics: Analyzes key words, inbound/outbound links etc crawled and stored in the index.

Usage analytics: Analyzed the content usage like Clicks, Views, ratings, recommendations and stores them with the search index, to improve search accuracy and provide additional information/ recommendations.


Content Search Web Part
Displays content that was crawled and added to the search index
eDiscovery Template
Allows creating separate case templates for specific purposes.
Ex: Create a new case for a new Contract.

Allows users to search content from various sites and site collections, farms, Exchange servers etc and store the results of the search in the eDiscovery site.

Allows the user to view the original saved version and the latest version of the artifacts, provided the artifacts get modified after the discovery is done.
Continuous Crawling
New documents added will now appear instantly in search results without waiting for the indexing process to be completed.
High Scalability
SharePoint 2013 search uses the high scalability model of FAST Search Server.

SharePoint Search


Search is a key feature of SharePoint; search enables the users to find information from the SharePoint knowledge repository.

Fetching information by navigating will be a tedious task, especially for larger organizations which have accumulated tones of information over a period of time. This is where search comes in handy, it helps fetching information from documents, records, files and other external sources.

Description
Multiple Sources
Search for data in multiple source locations like Sites, Documents, Records, documents, External files, External Databases etc
Search Scope
We can define a Scope for the search, thereby limiting access to a specific area and providing rich and focused search results.
Search Alerts
When we perform a search we can set and alert which will intimate us whenever the search result changes, this happened when a new content is added to the search keyword or when any of the existing items are updated. We can set alerts to topics of interest, and alerts helps to know the latest developments in the topic.
Subscribe RSS Feeds
Similar to Alerts, we can also subscribe for RSS feeds on specific search results and get updated with the latest changes.
Maintain Security
Display search result after filtering out the privileges set for the current user
People Search
Search for people based on their location, skills, etc
Highlight keywords
Highlight keywords in search results
Provide Suggestions
Provide Google like “Did you mean” suggestions to improve search accuracy
