SharePoint 2013 Sites

The following are the new Site features in SharePoint 2013.

Feature
Description
Community Sites Template
Users can start and participate in forum threads in the Community Sites, this helps users to share information and get suggestions from other users.
Community Portal Template
New Template, offers a search option to view the list of Community sites across sites and site collections. Allows the user to find a community site and join the community.
My Sites Template
New improved UI, includes Microblog and Newsfeeds features
eDiscovery Template
Allows creating separate case templates for specific purposes.
Ex: Create a new case for a new Contract.

Allows users to search content from various sites and site collections, farms, Exchange servers etc and store the results of the search in the eDiscovery site.

Allows the user to view the original saved version and the latest version of the artifacts, provided the artifacts get modified after the discovery is done.
 
Mobile - Device channels
Sites can be rendered in different formats to suite various mobile displays
Mobile - Push Notifications
Mobile devices can subscribe to receive notifications from SharePoint,
Ex: Adding an item to a List.

Event handling code interacts with Notification Service of the devices and sends appropriate notifications to the Mobile devices.
Mobile – BI Support
iOS 5.0 & Safari Mobile Browsers can now view Dashboards, Scorecards and Excel Services report from the Mobile devices.

Cross-Site publishing

Allows publishing content to multiple sites / site collections simultaneously.

SharePoint 2010 Sites


Portal in SharePoint 2007 is now Sites in SharePoint 2010. The following are the new features added to Communities in SharePoint 2010




Feature
Description
Ribbon
Top Menu and Tools are added to the new Ribbon, which is freeze to the top and does not scroll with the content.
Dialogs
Popup windows are now replaced with Ajax based Dialogs
Silverlight
Silverlight is supported, Allows adding Silverlight web parts directly.
Health Analyzer
Helps monitor server status and fix issues quickly
Browser Compatibility
Supports Internet Explorer 7.0 & 8.0, Safari and Firefox
Visual Upgrade
Allows you to retain the SharePoint 2007 look-and-feel if you want, displays a preview of SharePoint 2010 look-and-feel before committing to the new UI
Multilingual User Interface
Now apart from the content the Menu items, List headers, Ribbon text etc also support multiple languages.
