Excel - Color cell based on value

Excel - Color cell based on value
In Excel we will at times like to have the cells colored automatically based on the values entered in the cell.
For example when the states is entered as Closed we would like to have the cell colored in Green.

This effect can be achieved using Conditional Formatting in Excel 2007.

  • Select the cell to get the coloring effect.
  • Select the Home Tab and click Conditional Formatting
  • In the options select Highlight cells Rules
  • In the Suboptions select Equal to
  • A new Popup opens with a Textbox and a DropDown
  • Enter the values for which the cell is to be colored in the Left side TextBox
  • Select the color to be applied from the right side DropDown
  • Click Ok

Now enter the specific values in the Cell and yu can see that the color of the cell has changed automatically.
